As I have mentioned previously, among much good counsel shared by Sister Sharon Eubank, First Counselor in the General Relief Society Presidency September 23, 2017 (see ‘Turn On Your Light’), was a suggestion for us all to become more articulate when expressing our beliefs to non-members or less active church members. I have a number of blog posts on Mormon.org that will, perhaps, provide examples of what might be said in conversations with less active and non-members. In this I admit that I have been too shy to vocally articulate to others and so it is MY challenge to speak up. Other examples will follow…
How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?
Follow His teachings and example as taught in the scriptures. Learn what He taught and make outward actions and habits an example of those teachings. What did He show us about how to treat one another and how to handle adversity? What do we do when personal challenges and struggles make us wonder if He is there for us?
When we daily pray, study the scriptures and do as He taught we metaphorically open a door Christ is knocking at, to our heart (Revelation 3:20). When truly sincere, answers are there for us. When we take action upon what we feel coming back to us from the Spirit through prayer and scripture study (audible answers are rare) our faith increases. We find ourselves in tune with His will. If we are distantly out of touch and don’t at first feel anything, we continue to push forward in this pattern, follow His example and in time He will bless us with the faith we seek. (Personally as a youth and periodically since then, I have felt adrift from Him. Persistence over time closed the distance I created. He was there awaiting my return… there may be purpose in that ‘distance’ to help us appreciate, to recognize even more when He’s close.)
A key… follow through with any positive suggestion, any opportunity to serve or ‘be there’ for others. Anything that produces in us selfless habits and disciplines will return increased faith in Christ to us. We carry on as He would were He here personally. The more we do these things the richer is our faith in Him. k
This personal post above is one of many on Mormon.org authored with the Lord’s guidance. The idea being that we can share Gospel truths with others who don’t know or have forgotten them. Sister Sharon Eubank, First Counselor in the General Relief Society Presidency spoke September 23, 2017 of us all learning to ‘articulate’ gospel teachings to anyone interested in a way that provides clarity to the LDS position. (see ‘Turn On Your Light’). Each post will be numbered and, as with this format, will include the Church position and my own thoughts. (k)
