Ye are swift to do iniquity but slow to remember the Lord your God… he hath spoken unto you in a still small voice, but ye were past feeling, that ye could not feel his words… ~ 1 Nephi 17:45

My mind goes back 30 years to when our children were young.  Our home was a raised bungalow in the little town of Stettler, Alberta, Canada.  There was a basement suite used by previous owners for extra income with a lockable door that could separate the two living spaces.  I worked rotating shifts and remember those years as tough for of lack of sleep.  To sleep I wore ear plugs, eye mask, and had a fan going. One morning Becky was downstairs a few minutes and came up to find the door between the two living spaces locked… no key, our youngest playing somewhere beyond.  After some high stress moments shouting at the locked door in hopes that I would hear, she went outside in her housecoat, trudged through foot + deep snow in cold winter temperatures to our bedroom window, shouted again… with no response. Two trips later to the garage close by, had her on a six foot ladder, stick in hand, giving me a couple of whacks on the foot… THAT got my attention!

I wonder, if at times, the Lord has tried everything to ‘wake me up’, but I was not in the place of listening… I had blinders on not to see, earplugs (earbuds?) or extra noise in the background not to hear.  Was He trying everything to awake me?… then finally took the drastic (stick style) measure to get my attention.  Life becomes so much easier when I develop habits to listen to him above all else. He can then be there to show me way to avoid rough spots in the road ahead. ~ k    posted first March 3, 2015
