The following are sample testimonies inside the front cover of missionary copies of the Book of Mormon I pass out…

It has been said by someone totally unfamiliar with the Book of Mormon or its contents that the only thing he knew about the book was that it had many critics who had never read it or even seen it. This is your opportunity to read and see. Reading just the marked parts should not take long and may very well be a source of new and refreshing understanding of Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father and their plan for us – for all mankind.

This book has had a profound effect upon my life and I know it to be a true book from God. At the age of 15, while studying to join a different faith (within which I was raised), I read the Book of Mormon and embraced the faith that teaches from its pages (as well as from the Bible and from living Apostles and Prophets). The book was written for our day and along with the Bible, gives me strength, purpose and answers to daily living.

As you read the marked verses with an open mind, you will find wonderful insights that bring comfort and peace. Understand that the marked verses are a small part of the total insights to be found within, and as with the Bible, more is revealed with each reading. When a verse or passage ‘speaks to you’, consider reading the whole chapter for further insight and context.

Please pay special attention to the last marked verses on page 529. It is the promise of the book, put to the test by many who now are closer to God for having taken the promise seriously. The verse speaks of ‘real intent’, meaning full purpose of heart. If we sincerely expect an answer, we should make an accompanying commitment to our Redeemer, Jesus Christ, such as ‘to follow the teachings of this book, this second witness of Him.’ Prayers have little power to receive an answer without such an approach.

I know the book is true and from God!     Kent Marble

I suggest you start with the books promise on page 529.      An extra insert “Forging the Soul,” included in the back cover, contains counsel  for troubled times from a current Prophet and Apostles (with the same commission and authority of Peter and the Apostles of old).

Klea (Kent’s daughter) has this to say,

This book is my dear friend and truly a gift from a loving Father to his children facing a difficult world.

I encourage you to begin to read it and then persist! Persist even though you might not consider yourself a great reader! I learned to read by repeating the short phrases of the Book of Mormon after my parents. Persist even though you might think you are too busy. This marked copy will give you a tasty overview of some of my favorite passages. They will draw  you in! Persist even though you might think you have been away from spiritual things too long. This book is a window to Heavenly Father’s love for all his children. You will feel his love for you as you persist.

I know the Book of Mormon is a companion to the Bible. The doctrines found in the Bible are illustrated, explained, and clarified in the Book of Mormon. The words will feel familiar to you! I love reading the Bible and I am continually amazed at the wisdom in it pages. We believe both the Bible and the Book of Mormon to be the word of God. Therefore you can follow the same pattern of receiving revelation in your life when you read from the pages of the Book of Mormon.

I encourage you to start with a simple heartfelt prayer that specifically asks God to guide you in a problem you are facing in your life. As you go through these marked passages, be open to thoughts and ideas that come into your mind…that seem totally unrelated to the scriptures you are reading. Write down these thoughts and impressions to do good. Close with a simple prayer of thanks and then act on what you have received. Come back for more the next day! That is all there is to using the Book of Mormon as a personal compass strait from God. It is delicious! Enjoy the feast!

Better yet, enjoy the journey.
