Spiritual Balance and Life’s Struggles:
I have reflected on how or what is the best way to have Jesus Christ as a part of my life on a sustained basis…meaning how do I keep the focus that would cause me to show Him gratitude for what he has done for me? A poem I committed to memory many years ago, when our children were still young, has more relevance for me today than it ever had… for different reasons. The deeper meaning comes when the last verse is considered in ‘first person’ as though Christ, our Redeemer, does the molding. I would change the last line to maintain that context as shown at the end;

I took a piece of plastic clay And idly fashioned it one day,
And as my fingers pressed it still It moved and yielded to my will.
I came again when days were past The bit of clay was hard at last,
It still that early impress bore And I could fashion it no more.
I took a piece of living clay And gently formed it day by day,
And molded with my power and art A young child’s soft and yielding heart
I came again when years were gone It was a man I looked upon
He still that early impress bore And I could fashion him no more.
Now change the last line of this last verse to read as though Jesus Christ speaks…
He still that early impress bore Yet I could fashion him more and more and more…
In context of him as my Savior and Redeemer, he is the Father of my salvation having paid that price with his blood, anguish, and tears in Gethsemane and Golgotha. Thus, in a spiritual sense I am his child… as are all of us, his children spiritually begotten. I am also a child because, compared to him, I really am in an infant-like state and have much ‘road to travel’… When I sincerely invite him into my life and follow his example, he has said: “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more: but ye see me: because I live ye shall live also.” John 14:18-19.
