avoiding plain nonsense
“Orthodoxy (correctness) in thought and behavior brings safety and felicity (happiness) as the storms come, including “every wind of doctrine”. (see Ephesians 4:14) Happily amid such winds the Holy Ghost not only helps us to recognize plain truth but also plain nonsense! ~Elder Neal A. Maxwell (Ensign May 1993 p.31)
I can embrace correctness of gospel teachings as given in scripture. I can also, through General Conference and teachings of current Prophets and Apostles, embrace very relevant instruction tailored to MY time… for conditions and troubles not in the scope of those who wrote scripture two millennia ago. Thus, I can see clearly to push away the ‘plain nonsense’ of today’s ‘philosophies of men mingled with scripture’. It’s my choice to bask in truth’s light (very clear instruction) as if at the feet of Jesus Christ himself… and I honor Him (and His plan for me) when I embrace such counsel.
