“Lawless are they that maketh their wills their law.”~Shakespeare
Hell comes as they relinquish their agency (their will) by doing whimsically what ever they want. The adversary, hell’s keeper, loves such ‘fruitful ground’ available to his purposes. The subtle suggestions he gives become chains of addiction and equal lack of self control… into degeneracy and horrendous difficulty. Then the flesh is yoked to the bondage of degeneracy. Freedom from such bondage is a ‘huge mountain to traverse’.
Compared with the above, Christ’s yoke is so easy and rewarding, in eternal ways, and His burden is SO much lighter… because he pulls with, never against us (see Matthew 11:28-30). Yes, there are struggles and challenges sometimes seemingly far more difficult than ‘we deserve’, but when yoked with Him, since we consistently strive (not always successfully) our burdens are easier upon our shoulders. The challenges our limited mortal vision would say we don’t deserve, make us into what He would have us become, a much better alternative than making self-will our law. kdm
