My last post on Thursday of this week ended with this thought:’There are many things I can counsel with him, since he is willing to be that close and engaged friend. Why would He want to be so personally involved in my daily decisions that I feel are trivial to him? Likely, the bonding aspects deepen a habit of faith we can both count on in times of my temptation and critical decisions. The resulting closeness / bonding might have broader, powerful application later.’
Also continuing another post… Forgiveness (post last Sunday) is a universal Christlike principle we can strive for that brings us closer to He who will always know the principle best… having ‘descended below them all… ‘ [D&C 122:8] to have us return to Heavenly Father.
The scriptures often clearly teach: when we develop an increasingly personal relationship with Jesus Christ, it is the best, most trusted relationship of this mortal journey. It means He is ahead of all things and all other relationships. Thus the better way for marriages embraces the ‘equally yoked’ paradigm for mortal partners; both individuals have that close personal relationship with Christ, and look for ways to ease one another’s mortal (any?) burdens that they may be light. Their bonding to one another and to Him grows stronger until the three entities are one in purpose and direction (see D&C 38:27). The rewards of such a relationship are not of this world only, but limitless in the next life.
Having said that it is also apparent the Lord fully sustains marriages in whatever circumstances of positive upward direction, principle and belief the partners embrace. Such fosters love and goodwill within families (be they large or just husband and wife). To conclude: Christ wants us to become so familiar with his voice, the voice of the Spirit, that he rejoices at the opportunity to have daily, hourly, even ongoing input in our lives, even in decisions we could often make ourselves, feeling not to ‘bother him’ (thus without the benefit of His foreknowledge). Becoming that familiar with his voice secures the correct direction of greater long term peace. When others are falling to the ‘easy and convenient now ‘ path and are becoming lost within mists of darkness, those learning the voice of Christ will be sustained, strengthened and edified by Him… lights shining and replacing the darkness. kdm
