I have a tough time understanding that the Lord is willing to give me impressions on matters that really don’t concern spiritual events, but are just daily ‘life as it happens’. Time and effort were wasted when moving forward with ‘my wisdom’ on a recent decision.
My task Monday of this week had me shopping for a new water heater to be installed in the rental half of this duplex (we just vacated). Expensive to fix twice for the previous landlady, the old one was due again to come up with the same issue.
At the local Lowe’s, they had a ‘scratch and dent’ sale of water heaters. I picked out a likely one, but upon getting it home found It to be more trouble than it was worth — potentially an end result of high maintenance. It then came to me that I should have asked Heavenly Father for his input. …I can guess at what he might have said; “Do you really need a fancy version of a banged up water heater, when the simple one would work well?” (Each were the same price)
I have found when such suggestions are given they are blunt. I would rather have it up front and change course immediately than deal with the waste of time and trouble later (lifting it in and out of the van, and what would follow included stairs, installation and potential problems of a damaged unit). His counsel thus given is there for the those who love and seek him as a matter of course in their lives.
There are many things I can counsel with him and he is willing to be that close, engaged friend. Why would He want to be so personally involved in my daily decisions that I feel are trivia to him? Likely, the bonding aspects deepen a habit of faith we can both count on in times of temptation and critical decisions. The resulting closeness / bonding might have broader, powerful application later. kdm
