A… beloved prophet Gordon B. Hinckley… promised: “If you have any doubt about the wisdom, the divinity of observing the Sabbath Day, … stay home and gather your family about you, teach them the gospel, enjoy yourselves together on the Sabbath Day, come to your meetings, participate. You will know that the principle of the Sabbath is a true principle which brings with it great blessings.”(Teachings of Gordon B. Hinckley (1997), 559)

Any good and elevating habit is difficult to master, to make a part of me, because of my fallen mortal condition[i]. That is the comfortable, apathetic and lazy part of me encouraged when the adversary’s whispers (perhaps even shouts) his worldly agenda into my mind. Sabbath day observance is one of those commandments that, if embraced, leads to huge blessings in a very short time.

I recall a ward Primary President sharing that if she could have a less active child come to Primary for three Sundays in a row, that child would be ‘hooked’, loving Primary. The broader picture is anyone making that sort of effort for three weeks will have formed a new and ‘soul delicious’ habit. It will happen more quickly with an open, vulnerable attitude. Conversely, were I to make excuses to stay away from my meetings for just three weeks (perhaps because of being offended), I would find it easier to cut myself off from sweet soul strengthening habits; blessings the Lord has in store for me through Sabbath observance. kdm
