A couple of days ago I was exposed to false doctrines, even doctrines of devils, in an otherwise Christian conversation.[i] I admit my response was a poor one. The person ‘being taught’ said they felt a tingle up their spine, a reference they had used in the past to indicate the Holy Spirit was teaching them something new. In the brief conversation that followed they accused me of not believing others were entitled to inspiration from the Spirit.
On the contrary, I believe all are entitled to inspiration from God (the more we follow his commandments, Christ’s teachings, the clearer that inspiration becomes!). My objection?… most people don’t realize; that inasmuch as God teaches truth, Satan, the supreme master of deceit and distraction from Christ and His truths, will create a multitude of ideas & lies to diffuse that truth, keep me distracted from it, make it of no consequence, or even make it sound ridiculous (in today’s so called ‘enlightened’ world). He hits me with many counter ideas or keeps me preoccupied until I forget or dismiss what God suggested I do. The less I follow the commandments, God’s way, the more likely I will fall into Satan’s prepared traps and become increasingly disaffected from God. He (God) typically speaks once and I am expected to act. When I do not do so, I am left on my own to figure it out, while ‘wallowing in the mire’. The end result is far less than the blessings God would have willingly bestowed upon me.
On any particular issue or doctrine God is bound by eternal principle to be solidly on the side of unity under HIs truth, His plan. Were he to say this way, THAT way, AND the ‘other way’ were all good and ok, he would support confusion and discord. As I have said before, were He a God of confusion, not order (–Satan’s arena), He would cease to be God. I could never perceive of a ‘heaven’ where ‘anything goes’, where there is no discipline, where the inhabitants do as their selfish whims dictate and hurt others in the process. This embraces a clear reason we are sent here to learn and grow in the ways God has in mind for our eternal possibilities and bliss. kdm
For all reading the above who want a ‘ verbal picture’ of the God we, the LDS people worship, including writings of mainline Christianity, those in opposition to us, I invite you to read, or listen to a voice of clarity and truth about God and His nature. This was given by a modern day Apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland in October of 2007. Click link… The true God and Jesus Christ whom He hath sent
