“Therefore go, my son, and thou shalt be favored of the Lord, because thou hast not murmured. 7 And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.”~1 Nephi 3:6-7[i]
A theme running throughout all scripture: The sooner I forget myself and master completely this simple gospel teaching to not murmur, the greater the opportunity to ‘go about doing good’ as the Lord himself did. Much of what happens to me in this life by divine design, or through my own carelessness and poor choices, even sins, can become stepping stones by my increased commitment under God. Handled in the Lord’s way, great blessings await when I embrace each opportunity for such self-discipline. The other choice leaves me ‘wallowing in the mire’[ii], estranging myself from God… and all he has in store for me. kdm
