“The knowledge of truth combined with proper regard for it, and its faithful observance, constitutes true education. The mere stuffing of the mind with a knowledge of facts is not education. The mind must not only possess a knowledge of truth, but the soul must revere it, cherish it, love it as a priceless gem; and this human life must be guided and shaped by it in order to fill its destiny.”~ President Joseph F. Smith 1838-1913
In contrast the worldly path of learning is often self-centered, elevating a few. It is spoken of in the Bible as ‘ever learning, and never able to come to a knowledge of the truth’ (2 Timothy 3:7) (consider the ‘professional student’, gaming, or other endless ‘dead end’ distractions).
Eternal truths give us balance and long term positive motivation. When we revere them enough to make their principles and behaviors a part of our lives, we elevate all around us and make the world a better place. A good measure then of truths we might best pursue would be the way they lift others to a higher level of thought and discipline… Again “Ye life me and me lift thee and we’ll both ascend together.” kdm
