The other day I shared a Mormon profile card that directs folks to a site showing what many from our faith believe and how we live our religion (see Kent’s profile). The response for my sharing was immediately intense. She had studied well to bring those who have lesser convictions to ‘the error of our ways’. In the past I would have gone to scriptures within the first two chapters of James in the New Testament. The Lord did not want me to use them. They are confrontational in such a setting and only feed the wrong spirit/approach. So I found myself asking questions, giving input, letting all the miss-understandings and false accusations roll off until she said all there was to say.
Then I simply replied that I don’t know a single Mormon that has the perspective (earning their way back to heaven) that she described. For those who attend regularly, we willingly live our religion in appreciation of all the Lord has done and continues to do for us (especially His Atonement). We willing to do all we can to live what he taught and is now teaching through His chosen servants because it simply feels right to appreciate our Savior in that way. By so doing we are constantly elevating our thinking to a sweeter, higher level… a huge blessing in itself.
We are glad to embrace moral laws that bless our lives according to God’s plan for us. For us it is not a score card, but a sweet way of showing our respect for and appreciation to Him. k
