“Life is thickly sown with thorns, and I know no other way than to pass quickly through them.  The longer we dwell on our misfortunes, the greater is their power to harm us.” ~ Voltaire

‘Thorns of life’ are essential for our growth to higher levels of discipline.  Dealing with them in positive ways  (by prayer and meditation), makes of us ‘new creatures’ (see 2 Corinthians 5:17).  When we tend to look outward to assist others during our time of difficulty, we can become Christ’s ‘undershepherds’.  There is no greater work and often our own problems become small compared to what others are going through.   Strangely, the more we choose to assist others over self interests, the greater is our own inner peace, capacity, and discipline before the Lord.   I wonder, is this an eternal law of choice and consequences? re-posted from 4.27.15
