“In and of ourselves we cannot possibly comply with all the commandments that God has given unto us. Jesus himself could not without divine aid from His Father accomplish His work. He said on one occasion, “I can of mine own self do nothing, as I hear I judge and my judgment is just because I seek not my own will but the will of the Father who sent me.” [John 5:30.] And we, if it was necessary for Him, our Lord, to have divine assistance, will find it all the more important to receive His assistance. And in every circumstance and condition surrounding the Latter-day Saints, while in the performance of their duties, they are entitled to supernatural aid from the Holy Spirit, to help in the various conditions surrounding them, and in the duties that they are required to perform.”~Teachings of Presidents of the Church, President Lorenzo Snow, p.178
This is why the Church / Kingdom works as well as it does and will always be blessed with growth not seen elsewhere. Every man, woman and child correctly taught and embracing those correct teachings, are, on their own, seeking guidance for their lives and the lives they have stewardship over. Speaking personally, but for many, it is also the reason why I have seen my own efforts at times (too often!) less effective than they could have been… because I have acted upon my own, when the Lord’s input would have me ‘create’ to a much better result… purely to His purposes.
It is impossible for mortal man, alone, to work his way back to heaven. Just can’t be done. Through seeking and following guidance given from above, and all resources given us (scripture, truly inspired teachings, input from the Holy Ghost) we are blessed along the path far beyond what we could achieve by our own very mortal (often mistaken) efforts alone. More important, when we can so lose our self in blessing the lives of others, the world becomes better place. And, when we so follow, it’s all because of Jesus Christ. kdm
