What is jesting if not saying what might damage relationships. Things said in that jovial, ‘devil may care’ setting, come from limited understanding of another’s life or circumstances. We may tread carelessly on ‘sacred ground’. Even when we do know all the facts, we will never know their heart.

Christ never participated in something that might hurt another through recklessness.  His mode brings quiet suggestions for change (when we are vulnerable)… that invite feelings of increased cooperation and obedience. He was never reckless or careless as jesting suggests.   kdm
