The one principle of hell is–“I am my own.”~George MacDonald
When you have rubbed shoulders with those who live this “I am my own” how have you felt? How have they left you… shallow, bereft? Have you felt to deepen that relationship or engage ‘quiet avoidance’?
Such folk will not readily change unless they get some sort of ‘wake up’ call. We can be there for them, but their ‘care-less’, superior approach seems to leach our energy. Energy better placed in someone(s) more upwardly mold-able to Christlike principles. He, Christ, always looked to lift those about him, and gave no ‘energy’ to damning, self limiting thoughts. Thus when I forget myself to bless others, I am ‘bigger’, more mold-able to Christ and useful to his purposes. My soul grows (models Him) on an infinite road of expansion, not a dead end road of “I am my own”. kdm
