Thinking of the past with all of its problems, inconsistencies, hurt, sin…you name it, is Satan’s territory. He will constantly dredge up stuff we have been through to distract us from Christ. These will include sins already resolved through repentance that when fretting over, distance us again from Christ’s sound elevated thinking. Having sincerely repented and been forgiven, any suggestions to the contrary can only come from Satan (and he is the master of all inappropriate thoughts). Do whatever it takes to change his and all negative self talk.
Worrying about the future, over situations we cannot control, is also Satan’s domain. We certainly need to plan and work toward a stable situation for ourselves and family, including schooling and employment. We do our best, here and now with Christ close, so there is no need to think of the future in stressful terms. Our living in the moment with Him close will cause us to have his protection and companionship through anything life and the adversary would throw at us and our loved ones.
In conclusion, where there is no challenge, there is no growth. Our thoughts have no control over the past and minimum control over the future. We only have real control over the present. With Christ as our close unseen companion and friend, life is simply easier than without Him. We learn and grow to His ‘agenda’ for us. He sees and knows all things, so I would rather follow his agenda than my own.
I should mention that, ‘living consistently in the moment for Christ’, as I have written in these posts, is a destination for me… I am not there yet (and sometimes far from it). In any given day I may be found spacing this resolve as I deal with my own mortal stuff. kdm
