This blog targets those who are or want to be a little closer to Jesus Christ from day to day. We are all at different points in that sacred goal. I hope this and entries that follow will encourage, NOT discourage, in this quest. Better to stay on the path than to let anything I (or anyone else) may say, change that goal.
This and the next couple of entries address the same theme. They are mainly the result of a request from a friend interested in the fundamentals that follow. (Though he is already ‘on board’, I feel it necessary to address some things that will bring understanding to others.)
There are tremendous blessings in having Christ as our best of all friends. Many don’t think of Him as someone we chum with daily. Nevertheless he wants each of us individually to have him as our closest of close friends; who is consulted with often and on any concern. He is willing to comfort and, at times, even intervene on our behalf as circumstances, or our choices go against us. So… how can it happen? What can I do to become consistently and totally loyal to him and give him the permanent honorable place he should have in my life?
Perhaps the easiest way to approach this is to look first at its opposite A common pattern we see in the Bible and The Book of Mormon is shown over and over when the people are in prosperity for a while. They have closely followed the Lord’s counsel/teachings and he has blessed them for living the commandments. Then they feel they no longer need him, and even feel it an inconvenience/annoyance? to admit him as their Lord, friend, and Savior. They fail to remember/respect all he has done for them, turn to sin and forget him. It’s called ‘the pride cycle’. Can we see the parallels in today’s world? Is there a direction our society is taking that even the newest of Bible students can predict?
In consistently living and doing His will, He provides us with, peace, solutions and protection in difficult times. kdm
