“He who learns but does not think, is lost. He who thinks but does not learn is in great danger.” ~Confucius
There have always been many who learn but do not think to give any energy to God’s ways. They are lost… ‘Ever learning but never able to come to a knowledge of eternal, soul saving truths’ (see 2 Timothy 3:7 ). Such lost may be found.
Others do a lot of thinking and have engineered for themselves reasoned answers against God and his eternal truths. They may be in greater danger. Such deliberate disciplined thinking puts them farther outside of God’s influence. They often start down this path ‘thinking’ of ways to justify their sins. They embrace lies that deaden any relationship with God, and are not willing to learn soul edifying truths. Such are in greater danger having shut themselves out of sweet eternal possibilities and relationships with God and family.
There are those who neither think nor learn and are as a ship on the sea tossed and moved in any direction at any time. What a miserable existence to be carried with any wind of doctrine or no doctrine at all, having no anchor or discipline! (see Ephesians 4:14)
Most live their lives satisfied, but often with little ‘spark’ or energy; the day after day treadmill routine. Many feel unfulfilled and unappreciated.
Most satisfied are those who give themselves over to God’s will and embrace eternal truths. They are on a path of growth that no worldly discipline has a shadow of matching, the path that Christ bought for us with His blood and invites us to follow. No it is not easy, but in the end it is far easier and of greater value to others and self than any other alternative. kdm
