Richard G. Scott of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles (deceased) from his book ‘Finding Peace, Joy, and Happiness shared from Chapter nine under the above title:. . . Continuing from a previous post ‘Divine Currents’,

The more closely you follow the current of divine guidance, the greater will be your happiness here and for eternity. . . .

Moreover, the more abundant will be your progress and capacity to serve. I do not understand entirely how it is done, but this divine current does not take away your moral agency. However, I do know that as you seek to know the will of the Lord in your life, you will more easily discern that divine current. The right of moral agency is so important to our Father in Heaven that He was willing to lose one-third of His spirit children so that it would be preserved. You can make the decisions you choose to make. But you cannot choose the consequences. They are determined by divine law. Should your choices be wrong, there is a path back through repentance. When the conditions of repentance are fully met, the Atonement of the Savior provides a release from the demands of justice for the errors made. He said, “I the Lord cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance; nevertheless he that repents and does the commandments of the Lord shall be forgiven.”2 A disposition to constantly do right brings peace of mind and heart.

Our Savior, Jesus Christ, can guide you to the help you need to discover that plan and to make the correct choices in your life. He has promised: I will tell you in your mind and in your heart, by the Holy Ghost, which shall come upon you and which shall dwell in your heart.3

And the Spirit shall be given unto you by the prayer of faith.4

Pray always, and I will pour out my Spirit upon you, and great shall be your blessing.5

I say unto thee, put you trust in that spirit which leadeth to do good—yea, to do justly, to walk humbly, to judge righteously; and this is my Spirit.

. . . . I will impart unto you of my Spirit, which shall enlighten your mind, which shall fill your soul with joy. . . . By this shall you know, all things whatsoever you desire of me, which are pertaining unto things of righteousness, in faith believing in me that you shall receive.6

The last scripture confirms the desire of the Savior that you have joy in life and defines how to obtain it.

With the guidance of the Holy Ghost come the ability to develop a powerfully sensitive capacity to understand the personal plan God has prepared for you. Cultivate that gift. It will guide you to make the right choices. The Lord has said that guidance comes through consistent, righteous living. As you enhance you capacity to sense the direction of the infallible influence of the Holy Ghost, you will attain your goals and avoid disappointment, discouragement and tragedy. That pattern authorizes the guidance of the Holy Ghost, The results are correct decisions that bring peace with happiness and joy.
