From the book “Fifty Things that really matter. . . .”Rachael Ouzts shared:

Have you ever thought about why people tell you to count your blessings when you’re down? I think it’s because we truly are blessed with a fair life. In fact, I feel it’s because we are blessed with even more than a fair life.

I count my blessings and thank God I have hands, arms, legs that let me run and feel the wind in my hair or hike on a pleasant spring morning. I know that life is beyond fair because every time I feel I may be in trouble, things always work out. I pass my class, have tuition paid, get a job just when I need it, and have friends to buoy me up just when I feel I’m sinking. Life’s been beyond good. I have a great big family, a close circle of friends, and lack no necessity. I always dreamed of going to Africa. However, choosing to go study abroad there meant taking out a large student loan and relying on many people to help. It was miraculous how everything fell into place. I had the best of everything—from a donated new digital camera to a huge duffel bag full of first aid equipment. I wanted it badly enough, I worked as hard as I could for it, and everywhere family, friends, and friends of family friends filled in. The Lord took care of everything.

It is true that I have had situations in my life that have been unfair. I have been passed over for rewards when I clearly deserved them and been discriminated against. But although situations aren’t always fair, life is. The Lord watches over us and gives us more blessings and support than we deserve. Life itself is a blessing.~ By Rachael Ouzts,  50 Things that really matter to Latter-day Saints (Salt Lake City: Leatherwood Press, 40 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah 84111, (801-534-1515) p. 133-35
