Continuing from a previous post: Trusting the Lord:     I read it over and over, “I speak unto you these things that you may rejoice, and lift up your heads forever, because of the blessing that the Lord shall bestow upon your children.” ~Joy Saunders Lundberg, Where Can I Turn For Peace (American Fork, Utah: Covenant Communications, 2009), 87-88    — Now continuing. . . .

After the prayer, I picked up my Book of Mormon and began reading where I left off the previous morning in 2 Nephi chapter 9. When I read from the third verse, I knew from the peace that filled my whole soul that the Lord had just answered my prayers through this scripture. I read it over and over, “I speak unto you these things that you may rejoice, and lift up your heads forever, because of the blessing that the Lord shall bestow upon your children.”

I didn’t need to worry anymore. I just needed to pray and trust in the Lord. He would help our children. And He did. It took time, but each one has been blessed with the very things he or she needed.

From these experiences I learned to “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3: 5-6). This principle of trusting the Lord has seen me and my family through many troubled times. There is great comfort in knowing that we can trust in the Lord, and He will look out for us and direct us. All we need to do is acknowledge Him and trust Him as we work towards solutions to our problems.

It doesn’t matter what our troubles are—sickness, loss of a  job, a troubled economy, a wayward child, or any number of difficulties—we simply need to hold on to our faith and trust in the Lord. The ancient prophet Micah faced his own problems and in doing so, gave us a pattern. He said, “when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me” (Micah 7:8). In order to see the light during dark times in our lives, we must allow the light to come in, even invite it in through our faith and prayers. In so doing we may see opportunities that we have never before considered. Answers eventually come when we trust in the Lord and receive His light.

President Gordon B. Hinckley was a master at inviting in light and having faith. Many times we heard him say the words, “Don’t be discouraged. Things will work out.” As we look back on our life, sure enough, most things have worked out; and for those that haven’t worked out, we must trust that they will.

None of us knows what lies ahead, but one thing is certain, we don’t need to worry about it. We just need to “trust in the Lord.” ~Joy Saunders Lundberg, from the book “Where Can I Turn for Peace?” (multiple authors, Covenant Communications Inc. American Fork, Utah, 2009), 87-89
