From Sherri Dew:
C. S. Lewis wrote: the “trouble is that relying on God has to begin all over again every day as if nothing had yet been done” (The Quotable Lewis, 156). This means making worship a central part of life. True followers pray. They have some kind of regular pattern of scripture study. They don’t “find time” to go to the temple, they set it as a priority first and work other things around it. They welcome the opportunity to fast as a regular way of humbling themselves, putting God first, seeking answers to prayers, and strengthening their connection to the Lord. They do these things not to check them off some kind of forced obedience checklist, but because they have learned to find answers and peace in the temple, in the scriptures, and through prayers and fasting—and these elements of devotion are woven into the fabric of their daily life rather than something done on Sunday or sporadically as needed. Righteous acts help define who they are.
True Followers diligently seek to know the Lord and His doctrine, to understand His will for them, to know how to handle the latest challenge or even the latest triumph, to find answers to questions or dilemmas, even doctrines that confuse or trouble them. They do this not to comply with some unwritten code of behavior, but because they really want to follow Jesus Christ. They want to understand His gospel, particularly how it applies to them. They want to have their lamps filled with testimony and faith so that they’re ready when the Bridegroom comes, but also so they’re ready when doubt or conflict or trial descend, usually without warning (see Matthew 25:1-13). ~Sheri Dew
