Kent writes: It’s my birthday this week and I thought I’d share some personal information, as I have never done so. This because it seems some want to give me more credit than I deserve.
Born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and after a two year mission to the Gulf States (mostly Mississippi, also Louisena and Arkansas), I married Becky. . . both of us from Edmonton. We lived in several towns/cities in Alberta, then California, Kentucky, Utah and now Pueblo, Colorado (for 10+ years). My work has been mostly in heavy industrial settings. . . lots of rotating shifts. Just a regular guy in my 70’s now, we are blessed with three children, 20 grandchildren, and a great-grandchild coming.
I like to build things and make improvements on what we’ve been blessed with. Thus we built our first home in Fort Mac Murray, Alberta with significant improvements to each of the subsequent homes. Picking up plumbing, electrical, and other trade skills along the way gave me the fundamentals for work in a variety of settings. Originally, high school training in woodworking and automotive set the stage for huge savings in the decades to follow (-upkeep/repair vehicles, homes) and do the renovations for homes we’ve lived in.
A couple of incidents while our boys were teenagers are revealing. . . . I was showing one of them how to do some things on a vehicle . . . . which was met with absolute, total boredom. On another day, when their dad was working on vehicles, the other son was close by and watching me work on a different problem. . . brakes. After a few minutes he was pushing me out of the way so he could do it. My comment to both of them, “If you don’t want to work on cars and home fix-ups and keep them in good shape yourself, make sure you have a career where your income matches such needs . . . to have others do it.” They took me seriously. One’s a doctor/healer serving many, the other a mechanical engineer (who enjoys fixing things and learning how they work, . . . . and even modifying, making things better than originally designed.) Our daughter has also learned skills that reduce the chance of calling in a tradesman for relatively simple fixes.
Regarding Zionwisdom posts: When I come across something that appeals to me, I reason that it would likely appeal to many. I often feel that “this is too good and profound not to share” with others who might agree, to be motivated to change and draw closer to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
If a posts appeals to you, helps you to see a perspective you haven’t thought of, if they cause you to think and move in a direction closer to our Heavenly Father, they have reached their real venue and purpose.
Anything I do here on Zionwisdom.com, (as I parrot so many posts) is insignificant compared to the original message and the Spirit that motivated that message. In other words, please give the Originator the credit. . . . Jesus Christ and the Spirit as They motivate others to teach in sacred ways). ‘I am simply a clerk ‘with an interesting ministry’/gospel hobby. kdm
