From the book ¨Amazed by Grace¨ by Sherri Dew:
¨At the heart of Becoming is doing what we promise
to do every time we partake of the Sacrament
which is to always remember the Lord.¨
This means remembering Him when we choose what media we’re willing to expose our spirits to. It means remembering Him in how we spend our time and when choosing between a steady diet of pop culture or the word of God. It means remembering Him in the middle of conflict or when temptation looms. It means remembering Him when sincere questions arise about the Church or the gospel, questions that deserve pondering and contemplation in an environment of faith rather than doubt. It means remembering Him every time we partake of an ordinance, because every ordinance points to Him. It means remembering Him Monday through Saturday as well as Sunday. It means remembering Him when critics attack His Church and mock truth which will likely happen more and more often in future days. It means that we have taken His name upon us. [i] And it means working at being obedient.
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland put our challenge this way: Through all our trials in life we must truly strive to be righteous. We may not ever be free from pain. We certainly won’t be free from problems. We won’t always have bright, sunny days. Sometimes money, talent, opportunity, and tempers will be short. . . . But through all this we can be righteous! We know we can’t escape trouble, but we should do everything humanly possible to escape sin. ~Sherri L. Dew, Amazed by Grace (Salt Lake City: Deseret Book, 2015), 48-50 (The link below is for a related talk by Jeffrey R. Holland)
