Robert L. Millet, a prolific writer on Christian topics, wrote from his book, ‘The Holy Spirit:’
“There has never been a step taken . . . . in discovery or invention, where the Spirit of the Lord (that is the spirit of which Joel spoke, the Light of Christ, not the Holy Ghost!) was not the prevailing force resting upon the individual, which caused him the discovery or invention. . . nor did the Lord always use those who have faith, nor does he always do so today. He uses such minds as are pliable and can be turned in certain directions to accomplish his work, whether they believe in Him or not.” 5
In short the Light of Christ, or the Spirit of Jesus Christ, has been the spiritual impetus and the driving force behind the rapid intellectual, scientific and technological developments from the time of the Industrial Revolution through our own Information Age.
. . . B. H. Roberts offered the following insight on this principle: “God raises up wise men . . . of their own tongue and nationality, speaking to them through means that they can comprehend; not always giving a fullness of truth. . . but always giving the measure of truth that the people are prepared to receive.” The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints thus declares that “all great teachers are servants of God; among all nations and in all ages. . . . . While the path of sensuality and darkness may be that which most men tread, a few . . . have been led along the upward path; a few in all countries and generations have been wisdom seekers, or seekers of God.”6 ~Robert L. Millet, “The Holy Spirit” (Deseret Book, 2019) p. 37
