From his book “Teachings of Russell M. Nelson” we read:

. . . The definition I will use for the verb to connect is to “join by means of communication circuit.” You are already familiar with its use. For example, you connect with another person in a telephone call. A computer operator can connect with the Internet, and so on. The word connect comes for two Latin roots: con, meaning “with,” and nectere, which means “to tie” or “to bind.” Thus, connect means “to tie with” or to bind with.”

A missionary’s highest need is to connect with the Lord. He is your Creator. This is His work and you are His servants. He loves you and wants you to be successful. You have been called to teach His gospel. You have been commissioned to bring souls unto Him. As His messengers, you will teach best when you are connected to Him and moved upon by the Spirit—connected with the power of the Holy Ghost. Then your message to the people “shall be the will of the Lord, . . . the mind of the Lord, . . . the word of the Lord, . . . the voice of the Lord, and the power of God unto salvation” (Doctrine and Covenants 68:4).

Think of it! Connected to the Lord with the power of the Holy Ghost, you will literally be transformed from the person you have always known to become a real missionary—a true emissary of the Lord Jesus Christ.

You may ask, “How can I do that?” To connect with the Lord, make room in your heart and mind for Him. Learn from the scripture that says, “For how knoweth a man the master whom he has not served, and who is a stranger unto him, and is far from the thoughts and intents of his heart?” Mosiah 5:13). Don’t ever allow the Lord to be a stranger to you. (First Connect—Then Convert,” Missionary Training Center, June 15, 1999)
