We mortals, with the seeming ever present influence of the adversary, often find ourselves compromising the light God would be willing to give us. There is a warring within our souls [i] when we neglect the principles that lead to greater light He is so willing to impart.
Changes embracing God’s light come gradually and are best approached by ‘saturating’ our minds with good things which God would ‘smile upon’. They come when we learn habits of choosing the path of His light, elevating our thinking and resolve. They come when we make Him our ‘best friend’ and thus confidant through humble and consistent prayer; even sincerely said in our mind when life is busy and difficult around us. They come when prayers, simple and sincere, become so sacred to our souls, we know inherently not to share them with others[ii], lest they treat them as the worldly often do and/or we stop getting them. They come when we make conscious choices that shut out the adversary’s agenda for us. They come as we distance ourself from places, situations, media, you name it, that oppose God’s light and influence… and especially friends, even long time friends whose singular or combined personalities are stronger than our own – whose lives are filled with spiritual darkness and are dead ended.
Blessings for right choices seldom come instantly, but for every sacrifice we make that brings more light from God, the personal reward is so many times greater than following the world that, could we see with our spiritual (eternal) eyesight, the adversary’s path would clearly be ridiculous indeed!! kdm
