“… God’s revelations to Adam did not instruct Noah how to build the Ark. Noah needed his own revelation. Therefore, the most important prophet, so far as you and I are concerned, is the one living in our day and age to whom the Lord is currently revealing His will for us. Therefore, the most important reading we can do is any of the words of the prophet… Our marching orders for each six months are found in the general conference addresses, published… in the Ensign magazine. … Beware of those who would pit the dead prophets against the living prophets, for the living prophets always take precedence.[i]

Thus, we are fortunate to have abundant (even daily counsel when we opt to read or ‘plug in’ to) words of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. There are also many other general authorities and leaders (of both genders), called of God by His authorized leaders who share rich, timely counsel.  In our chaotic world, with it’s constant pull toward the adversary’s alternatives, what a profound blessing to have multiple sources of truth—that answer questions, concerns / propose solutions for the ‘here and now’… and it all ‘fits’. Those sources do not multiply error and confusion! Full and continuing truth never does! (Man’s interpretations often do.)

In reference to this, our study and perspective would best and frequently include input from our living Prophet, President Russell M. Nelson. His counsel as an Apostle of the Lord until a year ago, and now as the Lord’s designated Prophet today, has been as timeless as Aristotle’s or Socrates’… meaning that frequently his counsel is what the masses need and often does not have a ‘religious flavor’ at all, but is the sort of ‘common sense’ any of us could use daily.

It is interesting— timely that his book, ‘Teachings of Russell M. Nelson’ (published in 2018 after he became our Prophet) contain talks and writings over many years, since the time when he was called to be one of the Lord’s Apostles [April 12, 1984].  Such counsel covers a multitude of today’s concerns. With publication these teachings have become ‘re-sanctioned’ with increased authoritative power and light under his even more Prophetic calling and direction (as Prophet, Seer, and Revelator). Such a vast amount of counsel / information at our fingertips with such prophetic weight makes me grateful that his book has a place beside my scriptures, the standard works of the Church and Kingdom. Inasmuch as the most important prophet, so far as you and I are concerned, is the one today to whom the Lord currently reveals His will for us, President Nelson’s book in a spiritual sense, should be ‘feasted upon’… referenced often. k
